Limited Capacity seats available

This participatory session uses experiential learning in which participants will be guided through 500 years of history through the blanket exercise developed by KAIROS and adapted by "Walking Together: Education for Reconcilition" through the ATA. This exercise uses blankets to represent the lands of what is now called Canada, and the distinct cultures and nations which live on those lands to this day and goes through the history of treaty-making, colonization and resistance that resulted in the nation we today call Canada. Please be aware that participants will be asked to remove all footwear during this session and for some participants strong emotions can arise. By engaging participants on an emotional and intellectual level, the blanket exercise honors the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action and is a powerful tool to increase empathy and understanding which can be adapted to all grade levels.
